Common Buzzard

Common Buzzard
The Common Buzzard is now the commonest UK bird of prey. It is quite large with broad, rounded wings and a short neck and tail. When gliding and soaring it will often hold its wings in a shallow “V” shape. Common Buzzards are very variable in colour from all dark brown birds to birds with pale heads and breasts.

The greatest numbers of Common Buzzards can be seen in Scotland, Wales, the Lake District and south west England where they can be found on farmland with wooded hills, on moorland and in more arable areas to the east where they are spreading. They breed in trees and on hilly crags with open farmland and moorland nearby to feed over.
