Golden Plover
The Golden Plover is a medium sized plover with a distinctive gold and black summer plumage. In winter the black is replaced by buff and white. They typically stand upright and run in short bursts.

In summer Golden Plovers can be found from May to September on the upland moorlands in the southern uplands of Scotland, the Scottish Highlands, the Western and Northern Isles, the Peak District, north Yorkshire, Wales and Devon.

Winter flocks of Golden Plovers start to appear after the breeding season with the largest numbers seen between November and February when they often form large flocks with Lapwings.
