Equipment
My first "serious" camera was a Canon EOS 600 SLR which I used with a Canon 35-70mm f/3.5-4.5 zoom lens, a Canon 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 zoom lens and Fuji print film.
In Spring 2005 I joined the "digital revolution". Some people believe that if you are a “digital photographer” you are also a “digital manipulator” by default. Indeed, there are plenty of software packages available such as Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro which can substantially alter photographs from the original image derived from the camera. There are probably many digital photographers who work like this …. certainly the sales of imaging software continue!
I only use Photoshop to a very limited degree, mainly because I do not understand the majority of the functionality of the software! Where I think it necessary, I primarily use Photoshop to adjust lighting levels and contrast. Therefore I would like to think that I am a “real photographer” in the sense that a feel for the subject and the place is my objective.
This is the equipment that I currently use:
Nikon D70 DSLR camera
Nikon D80 DSLR camera
Nikon 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 zoom lens
Sigma 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 zoom lens
Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 zoom lens
Sigma 150mm f/2.8 macro lens
Sigma 500mm f/4.5 lens
Sigma 1.4x teleconvertor
Hoya Super HMC Pro 1 UV and polarising filters
With my Nikon D70 camera, I use Lexar 512MB Professional Series 80X Compact Flash cards. With my Nikon D80 camera, I use Sandisk Extreme III 2 GB Secure Digital cards .
I occasionally use a Nikon FSA-L1 camera/telescope attachment which allows me to use the Nikon D70 and D80 camera bodies with my Nikon ED III 82mm Fieldscope.
I use the following tripods and heads:
Manfrotto 055MFV View Magfiber tripod and 701RC2 head
Slik PRO 700DX tripod and 3365 head
I also use the following equipment and accessories:
Nikon ML-L3 remote control
Nikon MC-DC1 remote cord
Wildlife Watching Supplies beanbag
Tamrac 5574 Expedition 4 camera backpack
Tamrac 5578 Expedition 8 camera backpack
